Atlas

Atlas Studio is a Zurich-based graphic design practice founded in 2011 by Martin Andereggen, Claudio Gasser, and Jonas Wandeler. Specialising in the arts and culture sectors, the studio develops concepts and designs for both print and digital media, including visual identities, publications, posters, and websites. Their approach combines a print-oriented background with new technologies, creating powerful symbioses between analogue and digital media.

The studio's excellence in book design has been recognised in competitions such as the Most Beautiful Swiss Books and the Best Book Design from All Over the World. Additionally, Atlas Studio received the Swiss Design Award from the Swiss Federal Office of Culture. Their client list includes notable institutions like Aargauer Kunsthaus, Literaturhaus Zürich, and Kunsthalle Basel.

The strong, bold Swiss style, along with masterful use of balance and arrangement, makes Atlas Studio stand out in the modern world. The brand identity for the Barcelona Design Museum, in particular, is a brilliant example of functionally beautiful design.

The team is known for their personable and professional approach, avoiding jargon and focusing on understanding and articulating each client's unique message.

Emphasising flexibility and creativity, Journal Studio approaches each project as a fresh opportunity, tailoring their designs to be authentic and engaging. They value client involvement throughout the creative process, aiming to inspire and excite with every project.

Journal Studio specialises in branding, and their work is recognisable across Leeds. This, along with the print design they do, makes up an attractive portfolio and would be a place I could enjoy.


Actual Source

Actual Source is a design studio founded by Davis Ngarupe and JP Haynie, specialising in book design, visual identities, websites, packaging, apparel, and physical spaces. The studio operates at the intersection of design, publishing, and retail, often collaborating with artists, writers, and designers to produce limited-edition publications and products.

Their work blends contemporary aesthetics with a strong editorial focus, creating cohesive visual systems across print and digital media. Through collaborative projects, they engage with diverse creative disciplines, pushing the boundaries of traditional graphic design.

I’m drawn to Actual Source’s multidisciplinary approach and Shoplifters publication because I enjoy blending different creative disciplines and exploring new ways to connect design, publishing, and collaboration.



Graphical House

Graphical House is a creative design studio based in Glasgow, Scotland, specialising in brand identity, strategy, and digital design. With a focus on crafting beautiful, intelligent design solutions, they work closely with clients to create distinctive and compelling brand experiences.

Founded on the belief that design is a powerful amplifier for growth, Graphical House delivers work that is both strategically driven and visually engaging. Their expertise spans across various disciplines, including brand strategy, digital experiences, and content creation, ensuring that every project is executed with clarity and purpose.

Graphical House demonstrates a strong brand identity and strategy, working across digital formats. As much as I appreciate print and editorial-based design, we live in a digital world that must be designed just the same.

Studio Feixen

Studio Feixen is a Swiss design studio founded by Felix Pfäffli, specialising in bold, geometric, and dynamic graphic design, typography, and motion. Their work blends structured precision with experimental visuals, often incorporating vibrant colours and kinetic elements.

The studio operates across print, digital, and interactive media, with a strong focus on visual movement and playful composition. They are known for pushing the boundaries of traditional design by integrating animation and dynamic typography into their projects.

Felix Pfäffli’s work, in particular, drew me to explore the studio because of his fresh use of decades-old guidelines and techniques learnt from his Swiss background, which come together to create playful and engaging designs.
GIRL

GIRL is a Leeds-based design studio founded by Roz Donaldson, formerly known as Rosalind Stoughton, who previously co-founded the design studio Passport. The studio is driven by curiosity, fearlessness, and a commitment to meaningful concepts, investing in innovation and new approaches to design.

GIRL's design practice emphasises the importance of meaningful concepts, ensuring that ideas permeate through to the finer details of their work. They foster a collaborative environment with clients, enabling the delivery of exceptional results that exceed expectations and empower brands.

GIRL's design resonates with that of its predecessor, Passport, while taking it further into the modern world. Donaldson maintains a fresh and fun look in her designs while using clear, structured methods and techniques that I am familiar with.


APFEL

A Practice for Everyday Life (APFEL) is a renowned design studio based in London, established in 2003 by Kirsty Carter and Emma Thomas. Known for its multidisciplinary approach, the studio specialises in graphic design, art direction, and type design, collaborating with cultural institutions, global brands, and contemporary artists.

The studio's work spans a variety of fields, including brand identity, editorial design, exhibitions, digital design, and typefaces. APFEL’s approach is rooted in the belief that design is an essential part of everyday life, a concept inspired by Michel de Certeau's book A Practice for Everyday Life, which explores how people navigate and transform their everyday experiences.

Studio.Build is an award-winning creative agency based in Leeds, UK, renowned for crafting compelling visual narratives. Founded by Michael C. Place, a former designer at The Designers Republic, the studio collaborates with design-led clients to produce work that effectively communicates their stories and ethos. Their services encompass brand identity, art direction, graphic design, and custom typography, tailored to each client's unique needs.

Studio.Build focuses on intentional and thoughtful design, bringing high-profile design practices from London to Leeds and introducing them to the north. They specialise in bold, considered designs of logos and typefaces, distilled to their core elements—something I would like to follow.

Design Wajskol

Designwajskol is a multidisciplinary design studio founded by Italian-born designer Jonathan Wajskol, who relocated to New York City in 1979 as a protégé of the renowned Massimo Vignelli. The studio's portfolio encompasses a diverse range of projects, including editorial design, brand identities, wayfinding systems, product design, interactive design, and infographics.

Jonathan Wajskol's design philosophy explores the interplay between simplicity and complexity in modern design. His approach is influenced by the minimalist principles of A.G. Fronzoni, aiming to balance radical simplicity with emotional impact. This philosophy is evident in his work, which strives for clarity and effectiveness in communication.

Designwajskol is a studio born directly from the practices of great designers like Vignelli, continuing to perform and develop these principles further. There is an unmatched expertise and confidence in composition and artistry within these works.

The studio's design philosophy is centred around creating work that is both visually striking and highly functional, ensuring that each project speaks to its audience with clear, engaging communication.

Being the culmination of world-renowned designers, Bibliothèque excels in delivering both large- and small-scale projects for major clients, including spatial exhibitions.
